Welcome to STAM, The Trinity College Dublin Science and Technology in Advanced Manufacturing Research Group. We undertake research and collaborate with industry, foundations and initiative partners to develop and innovate advanced manufacturing processes, systems, practices and techniques.

Now, more than ever, engineers are required to apply their scientific knowledge to the manifold challenges facing the world. These interventions must be achieved in a way that conserves and enhances the environments and populations affected by these interventions. The underlying of philosophy STAM is that advanced manufacturing technologies lie at the heart of the intersection between Engineering, Energy and the Environment (E3).

Developments of manufacturing technologies increasingly determine and underpin many of the significant advancements in our society. They enable biomedical, aerospace, automotive, energy and ICT technologies, to name a few. Accordingly, research and development in advanced manufacturing is ever more a result of collaboration in these areas. STAM grew out of recognising these factors, and is an industry facing research group, focused on acting and engaging with sectors depending on advanced manufacturing.

Dr. Garret O'Donnell

Principal Investigator

Garret O Donnell is a graduate of the Dublin Institute of Technology, University of Dublin and NUI Dublin and has been a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in Trinity College Dublin since 2005.

Dr. Rocco Lupoi

Principal Investigator

Dr. Lupoi, currently a Professor in advanced and additive manufacturing, was originally appointed Assistant Professor within the Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Department, Trinity College Dublin, in July 2012; the year after he was awarded of a prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship.

Dr. Daniel Trimble

Principal Investigator

Dr. Daniel Trimble was appointed Associate Professor within the department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at Trinity College Dublin in September 2015. From 2008 to 2011, he completed his PhD at Trinity College.

Dr. Shuo Yin

Principal Investigator

Dr. Shuo Yin was appointed Associate Professor within the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering in January 2019. His current research interests are mainly focusing on additive manufacturing processes, including cold spraying, selective laser melting and digital light processing.

Prof. James Lunney

Principal Investigator

Prof. James Lunney is Fellow Emeritus in the School of Physics. He has published extensively on laser ablation of solids, pulsed laser deposition of thin films, and other topics in optical physics. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.

Mr Kevin Kelly
